DeGette Releases Statement After Voting Against Motion to Table

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, Congresswoman Diana DeGette (CO-01) released the following statement after voting against the procedural vote that preceded the motion to vacate the chair.

"Throughout the combined 19 rounds of votes for Speaker in the 118th Congress, I have consistently supported Hakeem Jeffries because he is the leader who embodies the values that matter most to the American people - Mike Johnson does not. While Speaker Johnson is being punished by the most extreme members of his party for doing the bare minimum, one delayed right move does not forgive countless extreme views. Speaker Johnson's record is overwhelmingly anti-democracy, anti-choice, anti-gun safety, and anti-science. Overall, he is out-of-touch with the American people.

"While the motion to table is a procedural step, I could not vote to save a Speaker who does not reflect the values my constituents and I hold dear and has proven to be an ineffective leader who must be up against the wall to do the right thing."
