Smucker Statement on Misguided Appropriations Legislation

Washington, DC - Representative Lloyd Smucker released the following statement after voting against a series of reckless and irresponsible spending bills brought forward by Speaker Nancy Pelosi this week, including H.R. 4346, 4373, and 4502.

'Speaker Pelosi and House Democrats' bloated and reckless appropriations bills are wrong for the country and will exacerbate the current high inflation, debt, and deficits we are suffering from as a nation. Rather than address President Biden's self-made national security crisis at the southern border or provide for the selfless individuals serving in the United States Armed Forces, House Democrats have chosen to boost funding for their partisan pet projects and take care of themselves first by increasing funding for House offices. These bills also eliminated the Hyde Amendment, which for over 40 years has prevented tax dollars to be used for abortions. I will not support legislation which unravels this and other critical pro-life policies. These appropriations bills are self-indulgent and offensive to the American taxpayer.'

'I will continue to fight against President Biden and Speaker Pelosi's uncontrollable appetite for higher spending and taxes. Congress must work to get America back on track to fiscal responsibility and rebuild the trust of the American taxpayer,' said Rep. Smucker.
