Explore Public Works virtually during Public Works Week!

The popular Eugene Public Works Day is returning in 2022, but with a virtual twist. This year children can explore various department services through a series of videos. The videos follow a local child, Dylan, as he travels the city and learns how public works makes lives better through the services they provide each day.

"I loved learning about Eugene Public Works," said Dylan. "I planted a tree, danced with a frog, toured the Wastewater Treatment Plant and Airport, and told some really good jokes. Public Works works really hard to make our city nice."

In addition to taking the virtual tour, kids can listen to songs about clean water, download coloring books, and other fun activities. An online lesson plan links to the eight videos and other resources. All of the resources will be available starting May 16 online at eugene-or.gov/pwday.

Public Works is also excited to announce the return of the Snowplow Art. Second grade students at Meadow View K-8 spent part of their spring painting the front of a snowplow. The plow will be put into service when inclement weather returns this fall.

"I'm always impressed with the creativity of local students," said Nick O'Quinn, Surface Maintenance Supervisor. "It's not only fun for students and our staff, but people love seeing the painted plows when they're deployed during snow and ice events."

National Public Works Week is held every year, celebrating the amazing work of public works personnel throughout North America. The 2022 theme is "Ready and Resilient," which is meant to celebrate the superhero that lies within every public works professional. Public Works professionals are always ready to serve their communities and resilient as ever in their abilities to pick themselves up off the ground after encountering challenges.
