Man charged with animal abuse after animals found dead

According to Sheriff Jeffrey J. Murphy, on March 7, 2018, the Washington CountySheriff's Office arrested Jeffery T. Owens Sr., 38, of South Glens Falls for 5 counts of Tampering with Physical Evidence, class E Felony and 37 counts of Animal Abuse, Agriculture and Market Law Misdemeanor.

Owens Sr. was charged after an investigation that determined he failed to provide proper care, sustenance and living conditions to 37 of his animals. Owens Sr. was charged with Tampering with Physical Evidence after it was determined that he altered and attempted to conceal five (5) of his deceased animals during the Sheriff's Office investigation. Animals found dead include five cows, a goat, two alpaca, seven chickens, 10 turkeys and numerous rabbits.

Owens Sr. was processed at the Law Enforcement Center and was arraigned in the Town of Kingsbury Court.Owens Sr. was released on his own recognizance for future court dates.
