Kingspan sets sail for sustainability with sponsorship of Tom Dolan

Kingspan is delighted to announce its partnership with Tom Dolan, Ireland's most successful sailor and a global champion in offshore solo sailing.

On 17 September, Tom finished a triumphant third in the last stage of "La Solitaire", one of sailing's most prestigious, challenging and competitive solo races.

"Kingspan is a company that I have known for many years," said Tom. "My mother would take me for a walk in a park next to Kingspan's headquarters. I feel like I grew up with them and having their support is a huge boost, not only for me but also for Irish sailing and ocean racing more generally ".

With the sponsorship, Kingspan aims to increase awareness of Planet Passionate, its ten-year global strategy for sustainable development focused on climate change, circularity and the protection of the natural environment.

For Tom, the ocean is both a valued workplace and a playground. He is a witness to the damage that plastic waste causes to the oceans and has long been an ambassador for change.

Through its partnership with the ECOALF Foundation - a non-profit organisation that removes waste from the Mediterranean through a 2,600 strong network of fishermen - Kingspan integrates recovered PET into the production of its insulation.

Tom is committed to making his boat as eco-responsible as possible and to set a new benchmark for monitoring the carbon footprint of his team. "Kingspan's values are completely in step with my own philosophies and how I have evolved my programme," said Tom.

He races the first mass-produced sailboat equipped with foils, a highly innovative marine technology which is expected to become a key part of maritime transport of tomorrow, without depending on fossil fuels.

Tom is from County Meath, Ireland but based in France.
