The Crown Estate announces Gus Jaspert as Managing Director of its Marine portfolio

The Crown Estate has announced that Gus Jaspert has been appointed into the role of Managing Director of Marine, starting in October this year. The role is currently held by Huub den Rooijen who will be retiring after ten years at The Crown Estate. Huub will be stepping into an advisory role once Gus is in position to facilitate the transition and provide continuity to partners and customers.

The Crown Estate's Marine holdings, valued at £5 billion, include management of the seabed and around half of the foreshore around England, Wales and Northern Ireland. It works with a wide range of partners to balance the competing needs of a busy seabed in support of the marine environment together with the deployment of offshore technologies that are crucial to the delivery of the UK's net zero agenda. This includes growing the UK's world leading offshore wind industry and the development of carbon capture and hyrdrogen markets, alongside facilitating the development of other sectors including cables, pipelines and marine aggregates.

Gus Jaspert has extensive experience working across complex policy environments leading strategy, transformation and delivery in Government at a regional, national and international level. Gus is currently Director General for Delivery Group in the Home Office. Prior to that he worked twice in Number 10 Downing Street for two different Prime Ministers, including as Head of the Delivery Unit focussed on shaping strategy and delivery outcomes for the Government on regeneration and the net zero agenda. Gus also served as governor of the British Virgin Islands in August 2017 where he led the Territory in the response and recovery from devastating hurricanes; and as Director of Security and Intelligence in the Cabinet Office.

Dan Labbad, Chief Executive of The Crown Estate said:
"Gus has an impressive track record of turning strategy into delivery across complex and often challenging policy environments, including regeneration and the net zero agenda. Alongside this, Gus has demonstrated through his varied career a commitment to working closely and effectively with a range of partners to deliver positive outcomes for people and the environment. His skills and experience will be invaluable as we seek to manage the competing demands of a busy seabed for the benefit of the nation. We look forward to welcoming him to the team later in the year."

Gus Jaspert said:
"I am delighted to be joining The Crown Estate. This is a business with a unique role to play in the UK's transition to a net zero future. I look forward to working with the team as it seeks to maximise the economic, social and environmental potential of the seabed, including through accelerating the roll-out of offshore technologies in response to the climate emergency and working closely with industry and other partners to ensure we do this in a responsible and sustainable way."

Huub den Rooijen said:
"It's been a privilege to work with such a strong team over the last ten years and see the portfolio grow in value seven-fold to £5 billion. It's a pleasure to hand over to Gus and work with him to support a smooth handover with our customers, partners and everyone who cares about this unique national asset, and without whom this success wouldn't have been possible."
