May 5 to 11 is Emergency Preparedness Week in Canada. This year's theme - Be Prepared. Know Your Risks. - encourages everyone to understand the risks in their area and learn what actions they can take to protect themselves and their families during a disaster.
"In Regina, we can sometimes face severe weather like thunderstorms and extreme cold," said Fire Chief Layne Jackson. "Having an emergency kit and understanding the risks we face are important steps towards being prepared to deal with disasters when they arise. Being prepared can make all the difference for your family during an emergency."
In just three easy steps, Regina residents can become better prepared in the event of an emergency:
This year, Regina residents are encouraged to check out Regina's new Mobile Command Centre, which will be located at Regina Fire and Protective Services Headquarters, 1205 Ross Avenue, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Tuesday, May 7. Also watch for social media posts throughout this week for helpful information about emergency preparedness. Residents are invited to comment on these posts throughout the week to enter a contest to win a 72-hour emergency kit. To get in touch with other Canadians about preparing for emergencies, join the conversation on social media using #EPWeek2024.
