Mayor Scott, BCRP Cut Ribbon on Renovated Medfield Rec Center Featuring City's First E-Sports Lab

BALTIMORE, MD (Tuesday, April 16, 2024)- Yesterday, Mayor Brandon M. Scott, Baltimore City Recreation & Parks (BCRP), and City officials celebrated the re-opening of the renovated Medfield Recreation Center, featuring the City's first E-Sports Lab. Upgrades at the Northwest Baltimore recreation center are part of the City's broader Rec Rollout.

The new e-sports lab - equipped with top-tier Alienware computers and full HD monitors - offers gamers of all ages and skill levels an innovative, inclusive environment to enjoy gaming. This immersive sanctuary transcends traditional recreation, offering an unparalleled gaming experience.

"Providing world-class recreation facilities for Baltimore's young people and families is a key priority of my administration," said Mayor Brandon M. Scott. "These rec centers are gathering places where everyone should feel welcome, safe, and able to explore new activities and hobbies. Our dedication to this work is fueled by our commitment to unravel the decades of disinvestment in our neighborhoods, particularly our Recreation and Parks facilities. We're making progress with new and renovated rec centers, pools, and play spaces across the city - and I know Medfield's newly renovated space is going to make a real difference in this community."

Medfield's new E-Sports lab is part of the first phase of updates to the rec center. This project aligns with the City's commitment to providing its residents with top-notch, state-of the-art facilities.

"We've been working to provide spectacular spaces to ensure that we are able to engage with our youth. I can't think of a better way than bringing E-Sports to Baltimore," said BCRP Executive Director Reginald Moore. "This project is another example of how we're providing top-flight amenities to help improve the health and wellness of our residents through offering quality recreational programs that promote fun, active lifestyles."

Additional Phase-I renovations include fresh paint, upgraded lighting, roof repairs, building exterior improvements, an updated kitchen and arts room, and new flooring, furniture, and televisions. Phase II of the project will feature an updated gymnasium. Renovations at Medfield Recreation Center were made possible by an investment of more than $380,000 financed by City funding.

BCRP's Rec Rollout includes playground ribbon cuttings and a series of groundbreaking celebrations announcing the status of recreation projects. The City is slated to celebrate several additional recreation spaces throughout the year.
