New CCTV cameras installed in Borehamwood

New CCTV cameras have been installed in Borehamwood as part of our Safer Street Initiative.

The two cameras have gone up at the rear of the shops on Leeming Road and eight cameras are currently being upgraded along Shenley Road and Manor Way, going live in a few weeks, to help reduce crime and anti-social behaviour in the area.

The cameras are part of a series of measures we've introduced to tackle crime and antisocial behaviour, investigate and detect crime and to help provide a safe and secure environment for residents.

Councillor Pervez Choudhury, Portfolio Holder for Community Safety, said: "We have listened to residents' concerns and installed the new CCTV system to help reduce crime and anti-social behaviour in this area of Borehamwood.

"A multi-agency visual audit was undertaken last year to determine the location of the cameras. The new and upgraded CCTV will complement the suite of mobile and on-street cameras currently in place.

"New measures such as this help make life better for people living in the area, as not only will it reduce crime but it will also reduce the fear of it. This is just one of the many improvements we are working on as part of our Safer Streets project and we will continue to work hard through our Community Safety Partnership to identify and introduce measures that will help to make Hertsmere a safer place to live, work and enjoy.

"One of the council's main priorities is to reduce crime and anti-social behaviour, as well as help strengthen our communities and these cameras will make a big contribution to that.

"The new CCTV roll-out will provide a visible deterrent to those who commit crime and will help people feel safe in their communities."

The CCTV cameras will be controlled and monitored 24 hours a day, seven days a week by the Hertfordshire CCTV Partnership.

The two new cameras were funded by the Home Office's Safer Streets Fund and the eight upgraded cameras were funded by Section 106 money.
