Otis Wins Contract to Install and Modernize Elevators in Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS) Facilities

Otis (NYSE: OTIS), the world's leading elevator and escalator manufacturing, installation and service company, will install 49 new elevators in IMSS offices and hospitals across 13 cities in Mexico.

"Every day, we move people safely to their destinations throughout Mexico and the world. We thank IMSS for entrusting us with this tremendous responsibility," says Magnolia Ochoa, Otis Commercial Director for Mexico and Central America.

There will be 44 new and five completely modernized elevators, all from Otis' best-selling Gen2 product line.

"The Gen2 family of elevators offers a smooth and quiet ride with a machine room-less configuration, updated aesthetics and an energy-saving ReGen® drive, to help reduce energy usage, lower overall buidling costs, and contribute to customers' sustainability targets. The new elevators are expected to be installed later this year," concludes Magnolia.

About the Gen2 Elevator
Otis' Gen2 family of elevators revolutionized the vertical mobility industry by replacing conventional steel cables with polyurethane-coated flat belts. Gen2 elevators provide a smoother and quieter ride for passengers compared to conventional systems. They also eliminate the need for a machine room and consume less energy.

Gen2 elevator belts are up to 20% lighter and last up to three times longer than conventional steel wire cables. They eliminate contact between the metal of the pulleys and the metal of the cables. According to comparative studies commissioned by Otis, the cabin noise of a Gen2 hoist is reduced by more than 26% compared to other equipment on the market that uses hydraulics and can achieve more than 73% less horizontal vibration and 60% less vertical vibration.

These elevators also feature the ReGen regenerative drive, which combined with the efficient Gen2 elevator motor, can reduce energy consumption by up to 75% compared to conventional systems with non-regenerative drives, reducing the impact on the building's electrical system. The ReGen drive allows energy wasted as heat in traditional systems to be fed back into the building's internal electrical grid and reused for electric lighting, air conditioning, computers and other equipment. What was once waste becomes newly-generated energy.

As part of this project, these new elevators will be installed in the following cities: Mexico City, Tijuana, Mexicali, Saltillo, Acapulco, Guadalajara, Queretaro, Guaymas, Villahermosa, Nuevo Laredo, Matamoros, Leon and Monterrey
