WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi (IL-08) was honored today as an American Graduate Champion by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) in recognition of his commitment to providing communities with high-quality educational content and expanding educational pathways for students of all ages. The Corporation for Public Broadcasting presented the Congressman with the award as part of America's Public Television Stations Public Media Summit.
'It was my honor to work with the CPB to build upon their 'American Graduate' program through my legislation which would create a new Department of Education grant program to support public media efforts preparing young people for the economy of the future by highlighting the education and training paths to in-demand careers,' said Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi. 'There are many ways students can prepare for a successful career but we need to ensure they are aware of them. Public media stations, in partnership with community and business leaders, can make an enormous difference in exposing students to these opportunities and helping them develop the skills they need to thrive in the workforce.'
The Corporation for Public Broadcasting is the largest source of funding for research, technology, and program development for public radio and television, and supports over 1,500 locally owned and operated public radio and television stations. The APTS Public Media Summit is the largest annual gathering of public broadcasting managers and community leaders to explore the future and mission of public service media.
