*UPDATE* MURDER INVESTIGATION ARREST - 3900 BLOCK OF EAST OCEAN BOULEVARD

Update 3/10/22:
On March 7, 2022, detectives from the Special Investigations Division located and arrested Sergio Alvarez, a 26-year-old resident of Long Beach for the March 6, 2022 murder in the 3900 block of East Ocean Boulevard.

Upon responding to the scene on the night of the incident, Homicide Detectives conducted an extensive investigation and worked through the night to identify Alvarez as a suspect. Detectives subsequently located Alvarez in the area of 10th Street and Gardenia Avenue and took him into custody.

Alvarez has been booked on one count of murder and one count of robbery and is currently being held on $2,000,000 bail. The motive for the incident remains under investigation. The case was presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office earlier this week.

The victim has been identified as Gavin Clason, a 33-year-old resident of Long Beach.

Original News Release 3/7/22:
On March 6, 2022, at approximately 9:00 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 3900 block of East Ocean Boulevard regarding a fight involving multiple subjects, which resulted in the death of a male adult.

Long Beach Fire Department personnel were first to arrive on scene and rendered aid to the victim. Officers arrived shortly after and determined the victim sustained multiple apparent stab wounds to the upper body. The victim succumbed to his injuries and was determined deceased on the scene by Fire Department personnel.

Homicide Detectives responded to the scene to further investigate the incident. After examining the scene and interviewing witnesses, detectives learned that the victim was involved in a physical altercation with multiple suspects. During the altercation, the victim was battered and stabbed multiple times. The suspects fled the scene on foot before first responders arrived on scene.

At this time, the motive for the incident remains unknown.

The victim's identity remains is being withheld pending notification to the next of kin by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner's Office.
