City of Buda Officials Thank Emergency Crews

for Fire Response

BUDA, TEXAS -City of Buda officials offered their public thanks to emergency crews who participated in extinguishing the wildfire that started Wednesday, July 27, off of RM-967 and east of Dove Drive in Buda's extra-territorial jurisdiction (ETJ) on the Persimmons Tract of Property.

"All of the emergency crews, from Hays County and Buda fire teams, Texas A&M Forrest Service, Texas Intrastate Fire Mutual Aid System strike team, and other surrounding fire departments and agencies, set an example for how fast action and real teamwork should look," Buda Mayor Lee Urbanovsky said, adding, "The City of Buda is extremely grateful for their superb response to a potentially very dangerous fire."

Buda City Manager Micah said, "The coordination among the responding agencies to work swiftly to contain the fire, while also minimizing traffic disruption, was remarkable. We extend our sincere gratitude for all of their efforts in keeping this wildfire under control and protecting adjacent home and property owners."

The fire, which ultimately burned an estimated 80 acres and threatened nearly 200 homes, was started when someone with a livestock trailer hitched accidently backed into a utility pole causing the electrical wires to sway and spark.

The City of Buda is home to about 18,000 residents and has earned designations as a "Texas Main Street City," "Tree City USA," "Bee City Affiliate" and "Platinum Level Scenic City." Buda is situated along the Interstate 35 corridor, has 14 parks and a historic downtown district where residents and visitors alike can shop, dine, relax, and breathe easy here.
