National Assembly Speaker Ivica Dacic Meets with Russian Delegation Headed by Governor of St. Petersburg

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Ivica Dacic met today with a Russian delegation headed by the Governor of St. Petersburg Alexander Beglov, visiting Belgrade on the occasion of the unveiling of the bust of Alexander Nevsky in the churchyard of the Alexander Nevsky Church, as this is the year marking the 800th anniversary of the birth of the Russian military leader and saint of the Russian and Serbian Orthodox Church.

National Assembly Speaker Ivica Dacic welcomed the Governor of St. Petersburg Mr. Beglov and the Russian delegation, wishing them successful work and stay in Belgrade. Ivica Dacic said that the cooperation with the regions of the Russian Federation does not truly reflect the needs or capacities of either side, prompting for a comprehensive exchange of delegations with different cities of the Russian Federation. He pointed out that the Serbian National Assembly, as well as the MPs representing different parts of our country, support the strengthening of these regional ties.

The Governor of St. Petersburg Alexander Beglov agreed with the Assembly Speaker, saying that the goal of the Russian delegation's visiting was exactly that - to realise the many cultural and business activities from the recently signed St. Petersburg-Belgrade Cooperation Agreement. Among the members of the delegation were the Vice-Chairman of the Russian State Duma Alexander Babakov, Chairman of the Assembly of St. Petersburg Alexander Belsky, Chairman of the St. Petersburg Committee for External Relations Evgeny Grigoriev, as well as the vicegerent of Alexander Nevsky Lavra Bishop Nazariy of Kronstadt.

The meeting was also attended by the Mayor of Belgrade Zoran Radojicic, Speaker of the Assembly of the City of Belgrade Nikola Nikodijevic and Deputy Mayor of Belgrade Goran Vesic.
