York Appoints Government Affairs Expert as Foundation Board Chair

Dr. Berenecea Johnson Eanes, president of York College of the City University of New York (CUNY) today announced the appointment of Ana Rua as member and chair of the York College Foundation Board.

Ms. Rua leads New York Government Affairs City & State strategy at Crown Castle, the nation's largest provider of shared wireless infrastructure, where she is driven by the ability of the telecommunications industry to empower underserved communities. An immigrant from Colombia, Rua has spent her career helping others realize the American Dream by focusing on social responsibility at public and private institutions.

"I am delighted that Ana has graciously agreed to serve on the York College Foundation Board, says President Eanes. "Our board will benefit from her diverse experiences, and we welcome her and look forward to working with her."

"The mission of York College to provide students with a high-quality education to help them reach their personal and professional goals resonates deeply with me - especially when it comes to first-generation New Yorkers," Rua said. "I am honored to have the opportunity to work with my fellow Board members to ensure this institution is in the best possible position to succeed for years to come."

Prior to joining Crown Castle, Rua worked as part of the team that spearheaded the New NY Broadband Program - a $500M initiative to connect the most rural and remote regions of the state with high-speed internet access. In this position, she traveled to 56 of the state's 62 counties to facilitate the program's implementation after inheriting a $70 million portfolio of legacy projects.

In her current work for Crown Castle, Rua strives to pave the way for next-generation wireless infrastructure, known as 5G, with the aim of transforming New York's digital landscape. By educating and informing members of the public, policy makers, and elected officials, she helps shape public policy and opinion, generates, advocates, and builds community relationships with the objective of connecting those in disenfranchised and far-reaching communities with tools to empower themselves and succeed.

A graduate of SUNY Geneseo, with dual Bachelor of Science degrees in Political Science and International Relations, and a minor in Latin American Studies. Rua is a trustee for the Citizens Budget Commission and a member of the Junior Achievement of New York Board. She also represents Crown Castle at the Partnership for New York City.

York College is proud to have in Ms. Rua, a stellar new Foundation Board Chair.
