Oíche Drámaíochta in Strule Arts Centre

Fermanagh and Omagh District Council's seventh annual Oíche Drámaíochta (Irish language drama night) will take place in the Strule Arts Centre on Thursday 25 May 2017at 7:30pm. This is an event that presents the Irish language through the art of drama and song.

Among the performers at this year's event will be the choir of Gaelscoil na gCrann. Their repertoire will feature songs in English and Irish. Ceoltóirí na hÓmaí (the local singing in Irish group that meets in Strule Arts Centre on Wednesday evenings from 6-7pm) will also sing a selection of songs in Irish.

Students from the Christian Brothers' Grammar School will present the drama I Measc na dTonnta (Among the Waves). This drama was written by CBS drama teacher, Emma Pearson, and is based on actual tragic events that occurred on Inishkea, Co Mayo, where Emma's father is from.

Following on from the success of their presentation of an episode of An tAthair Ted (Fr Ted in Irish) at last year's event, Aisteoirí na hÓmaí (local adult Irish language group) will contribute to this year's Oíche Drámaíochta with more hilarity from the Craggy Island cast. An tAthair Ted II will follow the antics of the members of the TV based comedy classic when the effects of a mysterious cake hit the cast.

Tickets for the Oíche Drámaíochta cost £3 and can be purchased from the Strule Arts Centre box office at 028 82247831 or on line at www.struleartscentre.co.uk For further information on the event, contact the Council's Irish Language Officer, Kevin Goodwin by email at [email protected] or by telephone on 028 82256220.
