SAN ANTONIO (March 19, 2018) - Last year, San Antonio International Airport (SAT) volunteers assisted more than 375,000 customers. With more than 150 volunteers, the SAT Ambassador Program contributed approximately 34,761 customer service hours in the calendar year of 2017. The combined cumulative volunteer hours saved the City of San Antonio approximately $295,468.50 based on the current minimum wage.

'Each volunteer brings an immeasurable amount of goodwill and value to the airport. We appreciate their time, dedication and consider it an honor to have them as members of the SAT Family,' said Karen W. Ellis, Chief Customer Experience Officer.

The SAT Ambassador Program volunteers welcome passengers, assist customers with directions, provide helpful information and recommendations on transportation, hotels, dining, shopping, area attractions, points of interest, answer questions and share interesting facts about the city and the airport.

Ambassadors also work with four-legged volunteers in the award-winning and very popular Pups & Planes Program. Working with Therapy Dogs, Inc. and Delta Pet Partners of San Antonio, the airport has therapy dogs who roam terminals with human ambassadors to provide a bit of stress relief to many travelers. Ambassadors are at the forefront of many of SAT's special events. Like the 'Welcome Home Hero' program to provide a warm reception to military servicemen and women returning from deployment. Many of the ambassadors are retired or active military volunteers and some ambassadors speak different languages and are able to share their experiences with travelers.

The requirement to become an ambassador is 4 hours per week, attend an orientation training session, possess teamwork skills, be extremely flexible and enjoy interacting with people.

SAT served more than 9 million passengers in 2017.
