(July 5, 2019) -
Metra will offer extra trains and altered schedules on its BNSF Line and Union Pacific West Line for customers attending the Taste of Chicago while other lines on the Metra system will offer extra seating. This year's food festival highlighting Chicago's diverse dining options kicks off Wednesday, July 10 in Grant Park and runs through Sunday, July 14.
'The Taste is a summertime tradition for many Chicagoans, so we have added service to two of our busiest lines to accommodate the increased ridership we expect to see during the event,' said Metra CEO/Executive Director Jim Derwinski. 'Extra trains and expanded capacity should make an already fast and convenient way of getting to the Taste even better.'
BNSF Line customers from Aurora to Downers Grove Main Street will be able to board additional inbound and outbound trains throughout the five-day festival. From Wednesday through Friday, outbound Train 1285, which departs Chicago Union Station at 6:31 p.m., will terminate at Lisle, and passengers traveling beyond Lisle must transfer to Train 1287.
The Union Pacific West Line will provide additional inbound service on Saturday. July 13. One train will depart Elburn at 10:25 a.m. Saturday and make all stops to Glen Ellyn before expressing to Chicago. A second inbound train will depart Glen Ellyn at 11:10 a.m. Saturday and make all stops to Chicago with the exception of the Melrose Park and Kedzie stations. An extra train outbound train will depart Ogilvie at 6:30 p.m., express to Elmhurst and then make all stops to Elburn.
Full details for each line are available here.
To make travel to the Taste more affordable, Metra offers a $10 Weekend Pass good for unlimited travel on Saturday and Sunday. The pass can be purchased with cash on the train or via the Ventra App, which can be downloaded from the App Store and Google Play. And, throughout the summer, up to three kids 11 and under can ride free with each adult.
