Best Composite Pedals 2022 - Tried and Tested

What are MTB Flat Pedals?

Mountain bike flat pedals are simple in design but a lot of engineering has went into them in recent years that means there's a lot to choose from. Simply they are often made from composite or aluminium and feature a number of pins that almost stick to the sole of your shoe to help provide the grip. Offering a larger platform to place your foot on compared to clipless they are the chosen pedals of choice for professionals like Sam Hill.

A debate that can long separate a mountain biker, should I go for flats or clipless pedals? This really comes down to preference, a case is always put that clipless pedals is said to be more efficient as your foot is always attached to the pedal. On the other hand some riders will say that the perfect shoe and pedal combination will do just as good a job if not better!

Flat pedals do have the added benefit of inspiring confidence. With your foot easily lifted off the pedal, if you need that bit of extra balance or to put your foot down quickly. The bigger platform on a flat pedal also provides extra confidence and is said that you can get better feedback on the terrain (ie - more power needed).

We've complied a list of the best mountain bike flat pedals based on our experiences with them on the trails along with price and grip! Helping you make your decision easier.

The small pedals are ideal for those more rocky adventures, coming in at profile thickness of only 11-13mm you have plenty of clearance on the downstroke and don't find yourself scrapping off rocks on the tighter turns.
