Accused Gunman Indicted for Attempted Murder

Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn announces that 21-year-old Dajon Wells of Buffalo was arraigned yesterday afternoon before State Supreme Court Justice Paul B. Wojtaszek on an indictment charging him with the following offenses:

• One count of Attempted Murder in the Second Degree (Class "B" violent felony)
• One count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree (Class "C" violent felony)
• One count of Assault in the Second Degree (Class "D" felony)

It is alleged that on May 9, 2021, at approximately 3:38 a.m., the defendant approached a parked vehicle while armed with an illegal weapon on Donovan Drive near East Ferry Street in the City of Buffalo. The defendant is accused of firing multiple shots at the victim, who was sitting in the passenger seat, with the intent to cause his death. The driver allegedly ran from the vehicle as the shooting occurred. The victim, who was still seated on the passenger side and injured by gunfire, attempted to drive off in order to escape the attack and subsequently crashed the vehicle.

The victim survived the shooting. He was taken by ambulance to ECMC to be treated for his injuries, including a gunshot wound to the side of his face.

Wells is scheduled to return on Tuesday, November 9, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. for a pre-trial conference. He was remanded without bail.

If convicted of all charges, Wells faces a maximum of 25 years in prison.

DA Flynn commends the Buffalo Police Department Gun Violence Unit for their work in this investigation.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Brian D. Langenfeld of the Major Crimes Unit.

As are all persons accused of a crime, the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
