No-hit shooting - 100 block of Cherry Avenue - On May 1, 2024, at approximately 5:56 p.m., officers responded to a park in the 100 block of Cherry Avenue regarding a person with a gun, later determined to be a negligent discharge. The preliminary investigation indicates the male adult suspect fired shots in the park. Officers arrested the suspect, identified as James Webster, a 34-year-old person experiencing homelessness. He was transported to Long Beach City Jail and booked for prohibited possessor in possession of ammunition and a firearm, disorderly conduct, willful discharge of a firearm in a grossly negligent manner, and probation violation. Bail was set at $35,000. Officers recovered two firearms at the scene. No injuries were reported. The investigation is ongoing.
