Dauphin County Taps Knox as Director of Aging

Apr 18, 2024

The Dauphin County Commissioners have approved the promotion of Benjamin D. Knox from his post as an Aging Care Manager Supervisor to the Directorship of the county's Area Agency on Aging.

Knox is a resident of Hershey and a graduate of Shippensburg University. He has served with the Area Agency on Aging for eight years, and also brings experience in Dauphin and Cumberland Counties' probation offices and with NHS Human Services.

Knox is carrying on the legacy of his mother, Shirley Keith Knox, who was a long-time leader in the state's and county's care of adults and children with intellectual disabilities.

"Ben has already hit the ground running and is committed to putting seniors first," said Commissioner George P. Hartwick, III, who has oversight of the Area Agency on Aging. "In administering programs for seniors that include housing, Meals on Wheels, in-home care, nursing homes, scam prevention, and other causes, Ben has been a skillful leader with a diverse skill set that includes plan development, quality assurance, recruitment, marketing and more. We are very fortunate to have Ben take the reins, and so are our seniors."

"I'm excited to see Ben take on this new role and continue serving our senior community in Dauphin County," said Commissioner Justin Douglas.

"Over the years, I have been impressed by Ben's work ethic and responsiveness," said Commissioner Mike Pries. "We are happy to see him advance within the county and to have a strong, seasoned director to care for our senior population."

Knox is succeeding Robert Burns, who retired recently, after more than 20 years of county service.
