James A. Garfield National Historic Site Leader to give keynote address at Memorial Day Ceremony

The National Park Service is pleased to announce that Todd Arrington, Site Manager of James A. Garfield National Historic Site, will deliver the keynote address at the City of Mentor's 2024 Memorial Day ceremony. The ceremony will take place in Mentor Municipal Cemetery (6681 Hopkins Road in Mentor, Ohio) at 10 a.m. on Monday, May 27.

Todd Arrington is a 25-year career employee of the National Park Service who has worked assignments in seven different national parks. He has been posted to Mentor's James A. Garfield National Historic Site since 2009, serving first as Program Lead for Interpretation and Education before being elevated to Site Manager in 2015. He holds a Ph.D. in history from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and has been published several times on the Civil War and Reconstruction eras, the 1880 presidential election, and other topics. He served in the United States Army from 1995-98 before beginning his National Park Service career in 1999.

"I am humbled by and grateful for the opportunity to speak at a ceremony that honors those who have given their lives in military service to this nation."

James A. Garfield National Historic Site is located at 8095 Mentor Avenue (U.S. 20) in Mentor, Ohio, approximately 25 miles east of Cleveland. The site offers guided tours of the Garfield home, museum exhibits, two outdoor cell phone tours, and an introductory film. The National Park Service completely restored the house in the late 1990s, making it one of the most impressive presidential homes preserved for the public.
