City Commission to Discuss Resources for Children With Disabilities

The City's International Advisory Committee (IAC) welcomes local education leaders to its April 18 online meeting at 5 pm. Access the program on Zoom at https://us06web.zoom.us/j/83344220404 (Meeting ID: 833 4422 0404).

US Census data from 2019 indicates that 4.3 percent of US children have a disability. Parents and families often struggle to learn enough about their child's impairment so they can best support them and locate appropriate resources. Irving Park Elementary School Principal Kimberly Leighty, Exceptional Children's teacher Elizabeth Truong, and English Learner teacher Mireya Beltran-Caro join NC Beginnings Parent Educator Joan Burton to lead a conversation about resources available to families with children with disabilities. The panel will advise participants on advocating for children, locating resources, and learning about individual education plans.

Established in 2008, the IAC works to create a more inclusive Greensboro for members of the international community. Comprised of individuals whose national origin lies outside of the United States, the committee promotes the perspective of the City's international community to the Human Rights Commission and City Council.
