ICC leaders commence new and renewed terms

A new term for ICC's Executive Board began on 1 July 2019, following the election in May of three new members and commencement of a second term for three others serving members.

Members of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) governing bodies also elected Cherie Nursalim to serve as ICC Vice-Chair. Ms Nursalim has been an ICC Executive Board member since 2013 and is a board member of both the ICC Research Foundation and ICC Academy.

Ms Nursalim is Vice-Chair of GITI Group, a diversified group with real estate development, manufacturing and consumer lifestyle presence partnering with world‐renowned brands throughout the Asia Pacific region.

Ms Nursalim serves on the Business and Sustainable Development Commission global Blended Finance Taskforce and the Women's World Banking Southeast Asia Advisory Council and was named one of Forbes' 48 heroes of philanthropy.

Comprising 27 CEOs and other corporate executives, the Executive Board is ICC's senior governing body. Taking up roles in ICC's anniversary year, the newly elected members, join the Executive Board in driving the strategic direction and work programme of the world business organization to enable business to secure peace, prosperity and opportunity for all.

Renewed three-year terms, until 2022, were approved by governing bodies for Anne Veronique Schlaepfer, a partner at White and Case law firm, Philippe Varin, Chair of Orana, and for Kok Seng Vong, Vice-President of the Macau Chamber of Commerce.

The three new members joining the ICC Executive Board are:

Candace Johnson

Candace Johnson is a global infrastructure, network and innovation expert and entrepreneur, currently serving as Vice-Chair of NorthStar Earth and Space, the world's first private satellite constellation dedicated to addressing challenges of space debris and climate change. Among many other roles and achievements, Ms Johnson is Chair of the Advisory Board of Seraphim SpaceCapital, the world's largest venture capital fund dedicated to space and space-related ventures.

Nayla Comair-Obeid

Nayla Comair-Obeid is the founding partner of Obeid Law Firm, heading the firm's dispute resolution practice. Ms Comair-Obeid is a Professor of private law and international commercial arbitration at the Lebanese University - Faculty of Law with areas of expertise ranging from international business law and Islamic and Middle Eastern legislation to civil litigation, and corporate and financial disputes.

Fredrik Cappelen

A former Chair of ICC Sweden Mr Cappelen has been a pioneer on sustainability issues in the Swedish industry and has extensive corporate experience as Chairman and as a board member. He is a major owner in the private investment company, Eterna, as well as of a bathroom retailer. In 2004, Mr Cappelen was awarded the 'Årets Ledare', a prize awarded by the magazine Affärsvärlden to the most prominent leader in business, institutions and authorities.

The World Council of the International Chamber of Commerce also ratified the election of Hamad Buamim as Chair of the World Chambers Federation, a position he took up in January 2019.
