Getting to Know Mercy Pediatrician Dr. Michelle Coleman

Dr. Michelle Coleman sees patients at Mercy Clinic Primary Care - Edmond Santa Fe as a pediatrician. She is accepting new pediatric patients from newborns to teenagers. Dr. Coleman grew up in Oklahoma City and completed all of her studies and work experience in her home state. She earned her bachelor's degree, medical degree and completed her pediatric residency at University of Oklahoma. Dr. Coleman is bilingual and fluent in English and Spanish.

Did you always know you wanted to be a doctor? I decided I wanted to be a doctor when I was a senior in high school. I grew up in Oklahoma City and attended Putnam City North High School. I had an amazing anatomy and physiology teacher in high school who inspired and encouraged me to pursue a career in medicine. I am so thankful to have taken her class. Teachers really do change the lives of their students!

What drew you to pediatrics? I have always loved pediatrics. In college, I was a volunteer in Child Life Department program at a local hospital and that further solidified my love of working with children. During my clinical rotations in medical school, I most enjoyed my pediatrics rotations. Working with children never feels like a "job" because it is so much fun! It's so nice to have a career where I look forward going to work every day. I'm very lucky!

What made you want to join Mercy? I joined Mercy because I believe Mercy does a fantastic job at providing effective primary care, including the care of children. I have been so impressed with the level of care Mercy provides to children and all the resources and support available to me and my patients.

What do you want parents to know about you and the kind of care you provide? I love getting to know families and forming years long relationships. It is a privilege to get to watch children grow and thrive. I want parents to always feel heard and to have open communication. I want them to feel supported during the hard times and good times in their child's life.

Fun facts about Dr. Coleman: I grew up in northwest Oklahoma City, but now live in Edmond. I majored in Spanish in college and enjoy taking care of Spanish-speaking families in my practice. My husband and I met in high school when we were 16 and have been married for 10 years. In my free time, I love spending time with my husband and two boys, Brody and Brooks. We love going to Lake Eufaula on the weekends and exploring all the fun parks in Edmond!
