Showing Generation Z what aviation can offer

In October EUROCONTROL will be hosting 2 major outreach events to attract school-age children to pursue aviation careers: Mobile Newton and Aviation for Girls.

From 3 to 13 October EUROCONTROL is delighted to be hosting two complementary events at our Brussels HQ aimed at attracting school-age children, especially girls who are underrepresented in our industry, to pursue aviation careers: Mobile Newton and Aviation for Girls.

Mobile Newton

EUROCONTROL is delighted to be working with partners FIRST Scandinavia Norway, AviAll (Aviation for All) and Boeing to become the first organisation to bring "Mobile Newton" to Belgium - a Norwegian concept designed to make STEM (science, technology, engineering & maths) subjects exciting and relevant to primary and secondary school students.

Using two specially equipped mobile classrooms which will be installed on our site, the project has invited schools from the Brussels region to offer this opportunity to classes, with a target age group of 13 to 16 year-olds.

The children will take part in a hands-on, three-hour aviation learning experience called "Up in the Air with Numbers", a realistic rescue simulation that requires them to develop navigation skills and collaborate to plan flight routes by carrying out mathematical calculations using units, distance, speed and time.

Aviation 4 Girls

The Aviation 4 Girls event on 13 October entitled "The New Now - You are the Future of Aviation" is organised by AviAll - Aviation4All, and is pitched at a high-school audience of 15 to 18 year-olds; participants may sign up directly, with registrations opening shortly.

The one-day event aims to showcase our industry to an in-person audience of around 100 girls and boys with the aim of stimulating their imagination and creativity, and encouraging them to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). Parts of the event will also be streamed to a wider audience.

With the help of a wide range of aviation partners - Boeing, Drone Master Academy, EASA, ERAU, EUROCONTROL, the European Commission, First Scandinavia, GAMA, Hogeschool van Amsterdam, JetAviation, JetSupport, Millennia Aviation, the Newton Project, skyguide, Skeyes - participants will hear inspiring stories from female role models across the aviation industry, participate in hands-on activities such as a virtual tour in a flight simulator, and talk to experts who will help them to understand how to transform interest into a passion that becomes a career. In parallel, there will be a small job fair to showcase the wide range of available professions and careers.
