Ladies and Gentlemen

Ni sa Bula vinaka and a very good afternoon to you all!

Today's ceremony marks the Coalition Government's commitment to ensuring service delivery to the people of Fiji, particularly in the Fisheries and Forestry sector.

Your Excellency, this marks a dream come true for the Ministry of Fisheries and Forestry. From my days working at our Hatcheries in Naduruloulou and Galoa till now, every time we received complaints from aquaculture farmers, we had to scramble and request excavator operators, which took a while. Not anymore, YourExcellency.

On behalf of the Coalition Government and the Ministry of Fisheries and Forestry, I would like to express our gratitude to the Government of Japan for their generoussupport through the Japanese Government Official Development Assistance [ODA] under the Japanese International Cooperation System [JICS].

I am deeply honored to represent the Government and the Ministry of Fisheries in receiving three excavators, three trucks, and spare parts valued at $637,798.00 USD.

Like other developing nations, the Ministry has always believed that aquaculture holds the key to ensuring fisheries sustainability and solidifying fisheries development, which can provide sustainable and consistent income from our aquaculture commodities.

The development of aquaculture commodities has been a significant part of our efforts to achieve the vision of enhancing and empowering rural communities to sustainably manage and culture their God-given resources for daily sustenance and economic development.

Your Excellency, the relationship between the Fijian Government and the Government of Japan dates back to our independence. I am pleased to highlight that Japan has been instrumental in the development of Fiji's aquaculture industry, including the establishment of the Naduruloulou Hatchery and the provision of aquaculture farming equipment. This assistance further strengthens our countries' prosperous relations.

I am honored to add that this assistance also contributes to the Ministry's efforts to alleviate poverty and provide analternative source of livelihood for the Fijian people.

I am confident that the excavators and trucks will add value and enable the transfer of lifelong skills to our team atthe Ministry of Fisheries and Forestry, ensuring better services are delivered to our communities.

I firmly believe that these resources will enhance the ability of aquaculture farming communities to put food on the table and meet their economic needs.

Furthermore, this assistance will boost fisheries 9nd forestry development activities in neighboring communities and may open opportunities for further collaboration, ultimately alleviating poverty for our local communities.

Our ultimate goal is to manage, protect, and sustain our fisheries and forestry resources for current and future generations. Empowering our coastal communities is therefore a crucial component of the Ministry's support.

Once again, I thank Your Excellency and the Government of Japan for the opportunity to contribute to the noble work of developing and shaping our model for an integrated, self-sufficient, and sustainable beloved Nation.

Excellency, as we celebrate this occasion today, I also note that we are also concluding the 01st South-South Cooperation under the JICA SDG14 Project where the Ministry of Fisheries Team is hosting our counter parts from Vanuatu Fisheries Department who have been able to access the projects that had been developed and fundedthrough our partnership with JICA.

Fiji has stood by the Japanese Government in difficult times, and we will continue to stand by your government asyou support ours.

At this juncture Excellency, I also would like to acknowledge the recent approval by the Government of Japan to fund a research vessel and Ice plants for the
Ministry of Fisheries in the new financial year.

This assistance through the provision of a state of the art research vessel would greatly assist the Ministry in works within our waters and we also aim to work with oLir Pacific Island member countries in the shared utilization of this facility and the resources needed to operate it when it becomes available.

In conclusion, I echo the voices of those before me, all of uspresent here, and those yet to come in driving Fiji's aquaculture sector forward.

Arigato, Thank you, Vinaka vakalevu, and May God bless us all.
