A Vision For the Future, For the People

The Transformational Build Back Better Act
Today, the House of Representatives passed the Build Back Better Act! This landmark legislation, now sent to the Senate, is a spectacular vision for the future, with transformational and historic action on health care, family care and climate that will make a significant difference in the lives of nearly every family - in the Bay Area and beyond. It will create millions of good-paying jobs, lower families costs and cut their taxes, while making the wealthiest few and big corporations pay their fair share.

This monumental package meets the urgent needs of American families:

  • Cutting Health Care Costs: negotiating lower drug costs for seniors; halting Big Pharma's outrageous price hikes above inflation; and expanding the ACA to make coverage more affordable for those who buy insurance on their own.
  • Lowering Child Care & Family Care Costs: expanding the basic promise of free schooling in America for the first time in 100 years with universal pre-school for all 3- and 4-year-olds; slashing families' child care costs; extending the landmark Biden Child Tax Credit; and expanding access to affordable home care for older adults and those with disabilities.
  • Making the Largest Investment to Combat Climate Crisis in History: cutting pollution, reducing families' energy costs, creating good-paying jobs and ensuring American preeminence in the clean energy economy for decades to come.

Because it is fully paid for, our Build Back Better Act will also help fight inflation as our economy recovers - and even reduce the federal deficit!

Alongside the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, which was signed into law on Monday, the Build Back Better Act will empower more parents to return to the workforce - with more jobs, smaller costs and lower taxes. These much-needed investments in every community across our country will unleash a decade of economic growth that will lift up all of our families and secure a brighter future for our children.

Investing in San Francisco's Infrastructure
Today, the U.S. Department of Transportation announced an $18 million infrastructure grant for the West Side Bridges replacement and seismic retrofit project on Yerba Buena Island!

The grant, secured through the Rebuilding American Infrastructure with Sustainability and Equity (RAISE) initiative, will ensure San Francisco takes an important step toward rebuilding our city's infrastructure by improving a nearly century-old connection of the Bay Bridge to Yerba Buena and Treasure islands. This $18 million investment in a shovel-ready project will improve safety and access for San Franciscans by ensuring that existing bridges on Yerba Buena Island can better withstand earthquakes, while also adding a transit-priority ramp and additional bicycle lanes.

I was proud to advocate on behalf of this project to invest resources into building a stronger San Francisco. And with our Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, $1.5 billion more in RAISE grants will be available every year for the next five years - unlocking more federal funding to help communities build stronger and more sustainable infrastructure to support our economy for generations to come.

Keeping Ahead of COVID in San Francisco

The FDA has authorized the use of the Pfizer-BioNTech pediatric COVID-19 vaccine for children ages 5 to 11. All vaccine sites in San Francisco and vaccination clinics at select SFUSD schools will be able to administer vaccines for these children:

  • Tuesdays from 3:30-6:30 at Malcolm X Academy
  • Wednesdays from 2:30-5:30 at Balboa High School
  • Saturdays from 10:30-1:30 at McCoppin Elementary School
  • Sundays from 10:30-1:30 at Sunset Elementary School

Adults 18 and over are authorized to receive a single booster dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna COVID-19 vaccine if 6 months have passed since their second dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna vaccine or if 2 months have passed since their Johnson & Johnson vaccine. The San Francisco Department of Public Health has recommended that residents ages 65 and over schedule their COVID-19 booster shots in advance of the busy holiday season to reduce the risk of hospitalization. Also, flu season is here. The San Francisco Department of Public Health strongly recommends that everyone ages 6 months and older get a flu vaccine to safeguard their health, with the start of a flu season that overlaps with COVID-19 this year.
