FDNY Adds 37 Names to Memorial Wall for Deaths Related to World Trade Center Illnesses

September 13, 2022

The FDNY will add the names of 37 members who died of illnesses related to their work in the rescue and recovery efforts at the World Trade Center to the FDNY World Trade Center Memorial Wall at an outdoor ceremony on Wednesday, September 14, at 4 p.m. at FDNY Headquarters - 9 MetroTech Center in Brooklyn. The ceremony can be viewed live on the Department's website, www.nyc.gov/FDNY.

To date, 299 FDNY members have died of World Trade Center related illnesses. This year marks the second largest group to be added to the WTC memorial wall since it was created in 2011. At that time, 55 names of members who died from 2003 - 2011 were added to the wall.

"Twenty-one years ago, we lost 343 brave members. Sadly, our losses did not end that day. Back then, we made a solemn promise to never forget, and we make that same promise today, to never forget the growing list of heroes who have given their lives to illnesses related to their work in rescue and recovery at the World Trade Center site," said Acting Fire Commissioner Laura Kavanagh.
