RECAP: Graybill Breaks 200 Record, Williams Lands Provisional Long Jump at Bucknell

By: Bill Morgal, Sports Information Director

Freshman broke the school record in the 200-meter dash on Saturday in her debut collegiate meet as the Shippensburg University women's indoor track & field team opened the season in full at the Bison Opener from Gerhard Fieldhouse on the campus of Bucknell University.
After pacing the Raiders in the 400-meter dash with a third-place time of 58.81 seconds, Graybill came back to win the 200-meter dash in 25.56 seconds (25.17 converted to banked/oversized track) - which surpasses the 2013 record set by Lauren Ellsworth (25.70/25.31, also on a flat track).
Graybill's performances were two of Shippensburg's 15 on the day that satisfied the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) qualifying standard, as Saturday's meet was the first opportunity for the Raiders to pick up conference cuts.
Senior , a reigning All-American in the long jump, debuted with an NCAA-provisional qualifying mark of 18 feet, 8 inches for a second-place finish in the event. Freshman debuted with PSAC qualifiers in both the long jump (17 feet, 10 ¾ inches) and the triple jump (36 feet, 7 ¾ inches).
Joining McKean with conference cuts in the triple jump were freshman (35 feet, 2 inches) and sophomore (34 feet, 6 ¾ inches)
Shippensburg's sprints squad had a strong opener. Junior tied for third in the 200-meter dash, running 25.81 seconds to break 26 seconds on a flat track for the first time in her career. Williams also picked up a PSAC cut in the 200, finishing fifth in 25.84 seconds.
Bruno also broke 60 seconds on the flat track in the 400-meter dash, running an excellent fourth-place time of 59.02 seconds. That time is a straight PR, while her 200-meter time is also a track-converted lifetime best.
Senior also had an excellent season debut, running 1:01.44 in the 400 for a conference qualifier. Higgins also made a bid at Shippensburg's 300-meter record, completing the seldom-contested event in 43.86 seconds. SU's record in the event is held by Dawn Gearhart, who ran 42.72 seconds in 1990.
In throws, junior paced the Raiders in the shot with a fifth-place put of 43 feet, 0 ¼ inches for a PSAC cut. Sophomore led SU in the weight with a sixth-place throw of 48 feet, 5 ¼ inches. Junior landed a PSAC mark in the weight of 45 feet, 7 inches.
Senior achieved her PSAC qualifier in the pole vault by clearing 10 feet, 11 ¾ inches.
Shippensburg now recesses for more than six weeks before returning to action back at Bucknell on January 25.
