UK Power Networks, which keeps electricity supplies flowing to 8.3 million homes and businesses across London, the South East and East of England is hosting the event at Garretts Clubhouse, in Queen's Avenue, on Friday, September 10, from 9.30am to 4pm.

The commercial arm of the company, UK Power Networks Services provides infrastructure services for the Ministry of Defence and manages electricity networks for six Army garrisons. As a whole the company employs about 70 military veterans and hosts Civilian Work Attachments (work experience), to help military personnel move into civilian jobs.

Anita Boye, recruitment specialist at UK Power Networks, said: 'This is a fantastic opportunity for service leavers to meet us, understand what we do and how we can support those transitioning into civvy life. We have a fantastic support structure for ex-military people and offer Civilian Work Attachments so military staff can learn more about us.

'We want to give people a complete picture of our business by meeting our military wives and service leavers who have transitioned into civilian life with UK Power Networks. Our guests can also hear from people who have joined us on Civilian Work Attachments.'

Visitors can wear virtual reality headsets to experience first-hand what it is like climbing an electricity pole. The company's independent employee assistance provider will also have a tent about the free support available for employees with post-traumatic stress disorder.

The company is running a barbecue so visitors can meet and mingle and plan their journey into civilian life with others who understand what they are going through.

UK Power Networks has Investors In People 'Platinum' status, and signed the Armed Forces Covenant in 2015 to express its support for fair treatment of the armed forces and veterans. It secured a silver award in the Ministry of Defence's Employer Recognition Scheme. The company has a long-standing relationship with the Career Transition Partnership (CTP), the MoD's official provider of resettlement, supporting all leavers of the Armed Forces.
