Children’s Mercy Kansas City Receives $50,000 Donation from Ameristar Casino Hotel Kansas City

KANSAS CITY, Mo.-Children's Mercy Kansas City is honored to have received a $50,000 donation from long-time supporter Ameristar Casino Hotel Kansas City to support the organization's mission to improve the health and well-being of children throughout the Kansas City community.

Founded more than 120 years ago, Children's Mercy is a leading independent children's health organization dedicated to holistic care, translational research, breakthrough innovation and educating the next generation of caregivers. Children's Mercy offers more than 40 pediatric subspecialty clinics, a Level IV intensive care nursery and the only Level I pediatric trauma center between St. Louis and Denver.

"We are so thankful for Ameristar's enthusiastic support for families at Children's Mercy," said Jenea Oliver, Chief Development Officer at Children's Mercy. "Because of community champions like Ameristar, families have access to world-class pediatric care and research when they need it most. During a difficult year, Ameristar's gift to the Family Support Fund is more critical than ever - providing families facing medical crisis with essentials like gas cards, lodging support and more. And Ameristar employees and customers have fueled cancer research at Children's Mercy, which will find better treatments and even cures for kids. Together, we will create a world of well-being for kids."

Keith W. Henson, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Ameristar Kansas City, said: "Ameristar Kansas City and Boyd Gaming are proud to support Children's Mercy and the tremendous work they do to treat thousands of children facing medical crises each year. Thanks to the work of the Children's Mercy team local children are able to get the care they need while their families receive essential support during challenging times."

In addition to the donation, Ameristar Kansas City is a sponsor of Children's Mercy's Dream Big Day. The team members at Ameristar have also contributed countless volunteer hours in a variety of activities to support families and patients. Ameristar will provide Happy Kits to provide entertainment for hundreds of children in the hospital; Hygiene Kits for families with children at the facility; and Comfort Kits for hundreds of patients facing needle stick procedures that help to reduce or eliminate pain, and prevent long-term psychological effects of trauma during these painful procedures.

Ameristar's culinary team has also provided meals to hundreds of patient families through the hospital's Noshes for the NICU program. The property will also host two virtual Partners in Play events where Ameristar team members will make crafts with hospital patients. Additionally, Ameristar patrons have donated cash, slot tickets and chips that will benefit Children's Mercy.

This donation follows Ameristar Kansas City's $50,000 donation to Harvesters - The Community Food Network to support its fight against food insecurity in the community. The donation helped the non-profit provide an additional 300,000 meals to local families struggling with hunger.
