This is the first time that ZPMC has presided over the revision of the international standards, and it is also the first time that China has undertaken the Technical Committee of Bridge and Gantry Cranes of the National Technical Committee of Crane Machinery Standardization (ISO/TC96/SC9), which marks the emergence of China's voice and ZMPC's voice in the field of international bridge crane and gantry crane standardization, and enhances China's influence and discourse power in this field.

From 2018 to 2019, ZPMC has successively obtained three international standard development and revision items. Two of the revised items are released this time, and the other one is in the stage of Draft International Standard (DIS).

The first standard ISO 9374-5 issued in this time was the previous version in 1991. On June 27, 2018, at the annual meeting of Technical Committee of Bridge and Gantry Cranes of the National Technical Committee of Crane Machinery Standardization ((ISO/TC96/SC9)), Zhang Minghai, a professor level senior engineer of ZPMC, was nominated as the project leader of ISO 9374-5 revision; and the second standard ISO 7752-5 issued was the previous edition in 1985, and the American expert was the project leader at the beginning. On June 7, 2019, Hu Jun, a professor level senior engineer of ZPMC, was nominated as the project leader. The two international standards were officially approved on January 8, 2019, and the revision cycle is 36 months.

The main development and revision processes of international standards are as follows: after the new work project proposal was formally approved by voting, according to the procedures specified in ISO guidelines, it was voted by Working Draft (WD), Committee Draft (CD), Draft International Standard (DIS) and Final Draft International Standard (FDIS) to obtain feedback from various countries. In case of any different opinions, it is necessary to coordinate with various stakeholders. The DIS and FDIS stages should be voted by 165 members of ISO to reach an agreement before the international standard can be officially released.
