Commissioner Diaz and Secretary Davis Champion Bright Futures Scholarships to Students

Tallahassee, Fla., April 23, 2024 - Today, Florida Commissioner of Education Manny Diaz, Jr., and Florida Lottery Secretary John F. Davis visited Madison County High School in Madison County, Florida, as part of a continued initiative to raise awareness on the Florida Bright Futures Scholarship Program. Students from 9^th and 10^th grades gathered to hear about the eligibility requirements, scholarship tiers and various postsecondary programs that the Florida Bright Futures Scholarships can be applied to. This is the fifth school that Commissioner Diaz and Secretary Davis have visited this year to bolster student applications for the Florida Bright Future Scholarship program.

"Education is a driving force that inspires students to work towards lifelong success," said Education Commissioner Manny Diaz, Jr. "I am proud to continue this tour and promote these incredible opportunities to students across the state of Florida."

"The Florida Lottery recognizes the significant role of education in our communities," said John F. Davis, Secretary of the Florida Lottery. "Teaming up with the Governor and the Florida Department of Education for the 'Keep Florida's Future Bright' initiative, we're committed to raising awareness to ensure every student has a chance to secure a scholarship through proactive preparation."

"Thank you Commissioner Diaz and Secretary Davis for your unrelenting dedication to students across the state," said Madison County Superintendent Shirley Joseph. "The Florida Bright Futures Program has had tremendous impacts on the lives of students throughout our community."

The Florida Bright Futures Program was established in 1997 and is funded by the Florida Lottery to reward Florida's brightest high school students for their academic achievements. Since its introduction, the Florida Bright Futures Program has granted over 950,000 scholarship awards.

The Florida Bright Futures Program offers four scholarships: the Florida Academic Scholarship, Florida Medallion Scholarship, Florida Gold Seal CAPE Scholarship and the Florida Gold Seal Vocational Scholarship. Current seniors and students seeking state financial aid for the 2024-25 school year have until August 31, 2024, to apply.
