In spring 2019, crews began sidewalk and roadway improvements, new paving, and signal, crossing, and transit improvements as part of the non-trail related Market Phase (NW Market St between the Ballard Locks and 24th Ave NW) of the Ballard Multimodal Corridor project.
Improvements completed during this phase of the project include:
Below are images of some improvements:
In the coming week, crews will wrap up their improvement work on this phase of the project. More information on the project timeline is below. We appreciate the patience and flexibility of the Ballard community as we worked to complete elements of this phase of the project.
What's Next for the Project
SDOT is committed to completing the Ballard Multimodal Corridor project in its entirety. Elements of the Market, Shilshole and 45th phases of the project continue to work their way through the legal system, delaying the timeline of the project. We will continue to pursue resolution through the courts to complete the Burke-Gilman Trail Missing Link as planned.
Due to ongoing court proceedings, we anticipate construction beginning no earlier than 2022. An updated timeline for the project is below.
Our goal for the Ballard Multimodal Corridor project is to improve safety, accessibility, and comfort for all users. We will work to connect the Burke-Gilman Trail Missing Link, improve pedestrian infrastructure and implement driveway enhancements, new traffic signals and utility and drainage infrastructure between the Ballard Locks and 11th Ave NW.
This project is one of many that you are making possible through your Levy to Move Seattle tax dollars. Thank you!
