Deputy Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Ihor Zhovkva held a meeting with Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs, Director-General of the European Affairs Bureau of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan Nakagome Masashi, who is in our country on a working visit.

Ihor Zhovkva expressed gratitude to the Japanese side for supporting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine both at the bilateral level and in international formats, in particular within the UN and G7. He separately expressed gratitude for the participation of Prime Minister of Japan Fumio Kishida in the second summit of the Crimea Platform and the participation of the Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Japanese Parliament Hiroyuki Hosoda in the first parliamentary summit of the Crimea Platform.

The Deputy Head of the President's Office informed the interlocutor about the security situation in Ukraine and Russian terrorist tactics of shelling civilian infrastructure. In this context, the possibility of the Japanese government providing assistance to overcome the consequences of the destruction of energy facilities was discussed.

In addition, Ihor Zhovkva appealed to the Japanese side with a request to provide assistance in carrying out humanitarian demining in Ukraine by supplying appropriate equipment or providing financing for its purchase.

During the meeting, the issue of bilateral coordination was discussed in the context of Japan's future presidency of the G7 (starting from January next year).

"I hope that among the priorities of Japan's presidency of the Group of Seven will be the issue of providing financial assistance to Ukraine and increasing sanctions pressure on Russia," Ihor Zhovkva emphasized.

He also informed the interlocutor about the initiative of our state regarding international security guarantees in the framework of the Kyiv Security Compact and offered to consider the possibility of involving Japan in its implementation.
