Arbor Day tree plantings rescheduled for Tuesday, May 7

The City of Peoria's annual Arbor Day tree plantings have been rescheduled for 1 pm on Tuesday, May 7, at RiverFront Festival Park near the Gateway Building. Residents are invited to attend the plantings to help commemorate Arbor Day.

Immediately following the planting near the Gateway Building, plantings will occur at Sinclair Grove near Constitution Garden. A tree will be planted at the Peoria Fire Department Central Fire Station, 505 NE Monroe St., following the plantings at Sinclair Grove.

This year's plantings are in partnership with the South-West Kiwanis Club of Peoria, the Peoria Garden Club, and the Peoria Park District.

Tree City USA

This year, the Arbor Day Foundation again recognized Peoria's outstanding commitment to promoting urban forestry and expanding the City's green footprint. Peoria earned the prestigious designation as a Tree City USA for the 31st time.

The City joins the ranks of more than 3,400 communities across the United States that commit to the four core standards of sound urban forestry management.

In 2023, in partnership with the Energy Efficiency Tree Planting Pilot Initiative from Ameren Illinois, the City planted nearly 200 trees. On average, the City's Forestry Division plants between 70-100 trees annually. Trees are planted in City-owned lots, rights-of-way, boulevard areas, and throughout Downtown.
