United Illuminating, Southern Connecticut Gas and Connecticut Natural Gas Award $450,000 in Tax Assistance to 64 Organizations

ORANGE, CT - December 8, 2021 -United Illuminating (UI), Southern Connecticut Gas (SCG) and Connecticut Natural Gas (CNG) - all subsidiaries of AVANGRID, Inc. - distributed a combined total of $450,000 in grants to 65 organizations. The funding will help support organizations across the state. The grants, made possible by Connecticut's Neighborhood Assistance Act (NAA) Tax Credit Program, are aimed at helping nonprofit community and neighborhood organizations across the state improve energy efficiency and reduce their energy costs. The NAA Tax Credit Program is administered by the State of Connecticut through the Department of Revenue Services (DRS).

Since 2010, UI, SCG and CNG have awarded $3.8 million in grants through the NAA Program, which offers a corporate tax credit to encourage businesses to provide financial support to qualified local nonprofit organizations. This year UI, SCG and CNG have given $150,000 each for a combined total of $450,000 to the tax credit program.

"As we prepare to celebrate the holidays, we are mindful of the many people in our communities who remain in need of crucial resources - and of the important roles nonprofit organizations play in supporting them," said Frank Reynolds, president and CEO of UI, SCG and CNG. "This program allows us to help our nonprofit partners achieve ongoing energy savings, allowing our partners to focus their resources on the critical programs and services that they provide."

CNG's contributions will benefit local organizations across the state including Emanuel Synagogue in West Hartford to repair their high-efficiency gas furnace, Goodwin University Foundation in East Hartford to assist with retrofitting their building for energy efficiency and Operation Fuel for their 'Better Homes and Buildings Program."

SCG's contributions will benefit Bridgeport's Beardsley Zoo to get new glass for their greenhouse, the Essex Historical Society for a basement dehumidification project, Green Planet Company for assisting 10 homes with the purchase of solar photovoltaic systems and the Valley Shore YMCA for a new HVAC system.

UI's contributions will benefit Bridgeport Neighborhood Trust (Building Neighborhoods Together) in the South End neighborhood, the Bridgeport Rescue Mission's window replacement program, Housatonic Community College in Bridgeport for LED light upgrades, Gateway Community College in New Haven for building retrofitting and the West Haven Community House Association for capital improvements for energy efficiency.
