Charlie Brinkhurst-Cuff Joins Narrative Projects as Editor

We're excited to announce that Charlie Brinkhurst-Cuff is joining The Times as a senior staff editor in Narrative Projects, focusing on the yearlong Black History Continued series. Charlie will assign and edit features, as well as build out an already promising event series.

Before coming to The Times, Charlie was editor in chief of gal-dem, a United Kingdom-based print and online magazine focused on perspectives of people of color from marginalized genders. Charlie was one of the founding members of gal-dem in 2015. In 2017, the magazine won the Georgina Henry award for Innovation in Journalism at the U.K. Press Awards. Charlie was longlisted for editor of the year in 2020 by the British Society of Magazine Editors.

She also conceptualized and led two gal-dem takeovers of The Guardian's weekend magazine, which garnered more than 1.6 million pageviews and led to a reprint of the sold-out print edition. A frequent commentator on BBC television and radio, Charlie was also previously co-host of 'Growing Up With gal-dem,' one of the fastest growing podcasts in the United Kingdom.

Charlie is the editor of several notable books, including 'Mother Country: Real Stories of the Windrush Children,' an exploration of the mid-20th-century generation of Caribbean immigrants to the United Kingdom, told through the voices of their children and grandchildren.

She received her undergraduate degree in English literature from Goldsmiths University and her master's degree in newspaper journalism from City, University of London.
