DBS Bank donates 1,000 oxygen concentrators in support of Indonesia's fight against Covid-19

Singapore, 13 Jul 2021 - To help in the fight against Covid-19 in Indonesia, DBS Bank announced today that it is donating 1,000 oxygen concentrators to the Republic of Indonesia. The oxygen concentrators, which are medical-grade non-invasive breathing aids, will be deployed by Indonesia's Ministry of Health to provide additional support to hospitals to treat patients with respiratory conditions.

Said DBS CEO Piyush Gupta, 'Having operated in Indonesia for more than 30 years, it pains us to see the country in the throes of its fiercest Covid-19 battle yet, as cases continue to surge. Amid these incredibly trying times, this donation represents a mark of solidarity with our Indonesia colleagues, customers and the community-at-large. It is our hope that by standing together, we can overcome the worst of this pandemic very soon.'

Said Paulus Sutisna, President Director, Bank DBS Indonesia, 'Amid the devastating rise of Covid-19 cases in Indonesia, one of the great needs of the hour is to help mitigate the oxygen shortage situation on the ground. We are therefore thankful to both the Singapore and Indonesia authorities who helped facilitate this donation, that we may join with them to do our part in this battle.'

Over the past year, DBS has made several donations in support of the fight against Covid-19. In 2020, DBS Indonesia, through the 'DBS Stronger Together Fund' donated SGD 2.5 million worth of meals and care packs to those hard-hit by the pandemic. This comprised of over 380,000 food portions to 8,000 households, whose main breadwinner was made up of daily wage workers, public transport drivers, street vendors, part-time teachers and others, through Foodbank of Indonesia. DBS Indonesia also distributed 300,000 food portions to daily wage workers through the Confederation of All Indonesian Trade Unions.

In May 2020, DBS Indonesia also donated Covid-19 test kits which were deployed to medical personnel fighting Covid-19. The donation consisted of 100,000 Rapid Test Kits, 15,000 Viral Transport Medium Kits, and 5,000 Swab Test Kits. Two Polymerase Chain Reaction machines and 3,000 test kits were also donated to the Department of Microbiology, Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Indonesia, in August 2020.

In May this year, amid surging Covid-19 cases in India, DBS also supported relief efforts there in a number of ways. This included the donation of three cryogenic oxygen tanks, each with approximately 20,000 litres of capacity, as well as 300 oxygen concentrators, to support the fight against Covid-19.
