(June 2, 2021)- As post-pandemic travel rebounds across the U.S. thanks to loosened restrictions and increased vaccination rates, many travelers are searching for authentic experiences to fulfill the wanderlust that's been building since last spring.   • The Governor's Mansionin Leadville gives families the chance to 'vacation like a governor' in former Governor Jesse McDonald's historic mansion.   • The Pueblo River Town Viewvacation rental is an 1890 home on the National Historic Register. New York architect William Halsey Ward's design integrated massive Norman elements into this two-and-a-half-story red sandstone residence constructed for Pueblo businessman Charles H. Stickney.

  • A former pinto bean warehouse, this Southwestern Retreatin Cortez has been repurposed with more than 3,000 square feet of updated living space. The remote, four-bedroom mountain escape is near Mesa Verde National Park and the Four Corners Monument.
  • Pueblo's former police station and jail is now Station on the Riverwalk, a boutique hotel with seven unique cells custom-crafted by local artisans. Two are surrounded by Brue's Alehouse beer garden, and one-the Post-Prohibition Tank-allows guests to experience jail without actually going to jail. Visit the Clink for craft cocktails, aperitifs, wine and upscale snacks.
  • The Science Camp, founded midcentury on the Alamosa River in La Jara, is a secret wonder in the San Juans that was once the Phillips University Science Camp. The off-the-grid, off-the-map cabin built in 1956 has a living room, fireplace, full kitchen and dining room, bathroom and six single beds. Rental proceeds go to renovation of the site.
  • There are ten tiny eco-cabins at Escape on the Range, located in a 900-acre Wild Mustang Sanctuary in Deer Trail. Shared facilities include a bath house, kitchen, dining tent, and a large yurt for yoga, meditation or other gatherings. Guests can bring their own horses with advance notice.
  • The newly opened CampVin Naturita engages with guests and the community through art, storytelling and campfires. Dwellings include fully outfitted retro Airstreams; glamping in Lotus Belle Onion canvas tents on the San Miguel River; beautifully renovated and purposefully stocked cabins; and sites for tents and RVs.
