Privacy Commissioner appears before Parliamentary committee on study into RCMP investigative tools

Privacy Commissioner Philippe Dufresne appeared today before the House of Commons Standing Committee on Access to Information, Privacy and Ethics (ETHI) to take part in its study related to the use of device investigation tools by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP).

Commissioner Dufresne's remarks addressed his office's engagement with the RCMP regarding the use of such technologies as well as the RCMP's obligations under the Privacy Act, Canada's federal public sector privacy law.

The Commissioner was joined by Gregory Smolynec, Deputy Commissioner, Policy and Promotions.
