Risch on National Human Trafficking Awareness Day

WASHINGTON - U.S. Senator Jim Risch (R-Idaho), ranking member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, today released the following statement on the event of National Human Trafficking Awareness Day:

"Human trafficking is a scourge that exploits the most vulnerable men, women, and children of any race or nationality. Today, on National Human Trafficking Awareness Day and during Human Trafficking Prevention Month, Congress remains committed to ending human trafficking and supplying the appropriate tools to further this end. We reaffirm our support for further prevention, protection, and prosecution efforts to finally put an end to this depraved and inhumane crime.

"Human trafficking plagues not only the United States but every country around the world. That is why President Biden should nominate a qualified individual to be U.S. Ambassador-at-Large to Monitor and Combat Trafficking in Persons. We have waited over a year for someone to be nominated for this key post that would lead U.S. efforts to combat trafficking around the world."

If you are or know someone who might be a victim of human trafficking, contact federal law enforcement at 1-866-347-2423, or contact the national human trafficking hotline at 1-888-373-788 or text HELP or INFO to BeFree (233733).
