NIFA Invests in IR-4 Project with a Four-Year, $56M Grant to Aid Specialty Crop Farmers

The IR-4 project is currently headquartered at North Carolina State University. It was established in 1963 by the USDA to provide pest management tools for specialty crops, which include many fruits and vegetables recommended for a healthy diet but also flowers, trees, and shrubs used to enhance our landscapes. Regional field offices are hosted at University of Florida, Michigan State, University of California-Davis, and the University of Maryland Eastern Shore. $11.9 million was awarded to North Carolina State University for Fiscal Year 2021, with $15 million per year, pending future congressional appropriations, for FY's 2022-2024.
