Congresswoman Nancy Mace Leads the Charge Against Online Sexual Assault

(Washington, D.C.) - In an era of rapid technological advancement and AI evolution, Rep. Nancy Mace remains resolute in her determination to bridge the gap in prosecuting online sexual offenders and ensuring robust protections for victims. This month Congresswoman Nancy Mace introduced two pivotal pieces of legislation: the SUE Voyeurs Act and the Increased Accountability for Nonconsensual Pornography Act of 2024.

"As the threat of online sexual assault continues to expand, it's imperative we take decisive action," stated Congresswoman Mace. "Every individual deserves to feel safe, which is why our office remains dedicated to introducing legislation that delivers justice where it's needed most. Now, it's time for Congress to act."

The key provisions of the Increased Accountability for Nonconsensual Pornography Act of 2024 include:

  • Increasing penalties for perpetrators to deter future instances of nonconsensual pornography from $150,000 to $500,000.

Key provisions of the Sue VOYEURS Act introduced earlier this month include:

  • Establishing a civil action for individuals whose intimate visual depictions are captured without consent in circumstances where there is a reasonable expectation of privacy
  • Allowing recovery of actual damages or liquidated damages of $150,000 for each intimate visual depiction captured, along with the cost of the action, including attorney's fees and other litigation costs.
  • Allowing for the preservation of the anonymity of the plaintiff by granting injunctive relief maintaining confidentiality through the use of a pseudonym.

Through legislation, Congresswoman Mace is continuing to combat the pandemic of sexual exploitation against women and children. As such, this bill was introduced on the final day of Sexual Assault Awareness Month. To learn more about our legislative efforts this year so far to protect women and victim rights, visit here.
