New Quay RNLI volunteer Lifeboat Press Officer Glyn Griffiths has retired after 12 years' service and remembers some of his best moments with the crew.
Glyn Griffiths, from New Quay, has given 12 years' service to New Quay RNLI, working closely with the RNLI's press offices at Poole headquarters and the regional office in North Wales, reporting on all the stories and shouts to the local press and media, and keeping them up to date with all the goings on at the station.
He recalls his best story was the one that made the national newspapers about a parrot which mimicked the sound of a crew member's pager. Glyn explained, 'A crew member told me that his parrot used to copy the sound of the RNLI pager so much so that he used to run out of the house thinking there was a real shout. We wrote about it and it made the national press and media. It was a great story!'
Danielle Rush, RNLI Regional Media Manager said, 'We would like to thank Glyn for all his hard work and wish him the best for his retirement from volunteering life.'
Roger Couch, New Quay RNLI Lifeboat Operations Manager added, 'We are very grateful to Glyn for all his work and are honoured to present him with a commemorative certificate, which is well deserved.'
Glyn is now handing over the baton to Kate Williams, a mother of two who lives in New Quay and works in Aberystwyth for creative marketing and communications agency, Four Cymru.
Glyn commented, 'I have had a wonderful 12 years and enjoyed every minute. I wish Kate all the best in her new role and would like to thank the crew of New Quay lifeboat station for making it memorable.'
