Call or Text 211 for Emergency Support During PSPS Events

Electricity is an essential need for any home or business owner, powering everything from refrigerators to medical devices. Public Safety Power Shutoffs (PSPS), though necessary to help prevent catastrophic wildfires, can cause hardship for customers by interrupting their power supply. Considering customers' individualized needs, Southern California Edison has invested in an emergency support plan to provide help during PSPS, as well as outreach ahead of time to ensure that customers with specific needs are prepared.

By dialing 211 or texting "PSPS" to 2-1-1-2-1-1, customers will be connected to 211 California Network specialists that can assist with access to critical resources, including home meal delivery, transportation and shelter needs, portable backup power, food replacement, bill assistance programs and support for those who may have physical, intellectual or developmental disabilities.

"We understand the hardships that our customers endure when their power is shut off," said Jessica Lim, principal manager of Customer Programs and Services for SCE. "The 211 California Network helps to mitigate hardships by connecting customers to resources that can help them during a PSPS event and prepare for emergencies."

When not providing aid during PSPS events, 211 will provide preparedness support for customers with access and functional needs. Through proactive outreach to these customers, 211 will help to fortify their resiliency plans by assessing their existing needs, connecting them to programs that can help them stay prepared and assisting them with program applications.

The resources made available through the 211 California Network were made possible through a joint agreement with Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) to expand 211's services throughout the state. Through the creation of a statewide network, customers will have access to expanded resources from across the network's entire service area.

"The collaboration with our partners allowed us to not only assess where the current needs are, but to create a network that can respond to those needs in truly impactful ways," Lim added.

To get connected and get help through the free, confidential referral hotline, dial 211 or text "PSPS" to 2-1-1-2-1-1. Customers can also log onto 211.org for more information. 211 is available in more than 300 languages.
