Denver Police Officer Arrested in Jefferson County

Published on August 10, 2022

Denver - Wednesday, August 10, 2022 - Today, the Denver Police Department (DPD) announces the arrest of a Denver Police officer - Timothy Hyatt - for investigation of Internet Luring of a Child, which was uncovered during an investigative operation in Jefferson County. DPD was notified late yesterday of the allegations. Hyatt turned himself in to the Jefferson County Sherriff's Office earlier today.

Timothy Hyatt joined DPD in 2005 and he was most recently assigned as a sergeant within the Patrol Division. Hyatt is on non-paid administrative leave due to the felony arrest. The Department's administrative review and disciplinary process will begin once the criminal case is adjudicated. If convicted of a felony, he will no longer be eligible to work as a sworn police officer in Colorado according to Colorado Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) policy.

DPD finds these allegations very concerning. DPD has a robust disciplinary process which includes the Denver Department of Safety and the Office of the Independent Monitor, a civilian oversight agency. Since the criminal investigation is being conducted by the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, DPD is unable to comment further on the case.
