Suspects Arrested For An Illegal Weapon and Narcotics

New Orleans Police have arrested two suspects in connection with illegal possession of a firearm by a felon and possession of illegal drugs (pictured).

According to investigators, Seventh District officers responded to a call of suspicious persons shortly before 2:00 a.m. on May 2, 3024 in the 4600 block of Viola Street. On arrival, officers saw four suspects who immediately attempted to flee. The officers pursued and were able to apprehend two of the suspects. Further investigation found a black Porche SUV near the scene which was being used by the suspects.

Arrested were Jamar Lewis, Black male, DOB 01/16/1994 and Steven Evans, Black male, DOB 05/22/1991.

All persons are considered innocent until convicted in a court of law.

Evans was arrested for possession of illegal drugs.

Lewis was arrested for illegal possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, illegal carrying of a firearm while in possession of illegal drugs, seven counts of possession of illegal drugs, and one count of illegal possession of drug paraphernalia.

The vehicle is being investigated for having a switched VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) plate.
